Maker

Stephen Kalmar was an interior and furniture designer, establishing Kalmar Interiors in post war Sydney in 1949.

Kalmar originals were designed to go well together with many design ideas stemming from books and magazines on contemporary Scandinavian and American design trends.

With smaller house sizes and a shortage of imported materials in Sydney, Kalmar’s furniture was light, compact and functional. Most designs utilised local coachwood and was marketed to young home owners.
